BHSA Pool Rules

Rule #1: Be Safe and Respectful

  • The guards on duty must be obeyed. One long whistle means "Clear the pool."
  • No running on the deck.
  • No diving (except during lessons).
  • No horseplay (e.g., hitting with noodles, holding people under the water, bothersome splashing, whipping balls or other pool equipment)
  • No foul language.
  • No chewing gum while swimming.
  • Do not hang or sit on the buoy line. It is not meant as a supportive device.
  • Please shower before entering the pool.
  • Use pool equipment appropriately (e.g., no standing or kneeling on flutter boards).
  • Children wearing floatation devices (e.g., water wings), must be within arms' reach of an adult.
  • Children who are not toilet-trained children must wear a swim diaper (disposable or washable) that is snug around the legs.

Who Can Swim Where?

  • Children who are 8 years of age or younger must be accompanied by a person 12 years of age or older.
  • Swim Test: Children (members and non-members) must be able to swim 2 widths of the pool before entering the deep end.
  • Children in Swim Kids levels 3 and below must stay in the shallow end unless swimming with a parent. Swim Kids levels 4 and up may swim anywhere in the pool, however, the guards have the authority to ask the child to stay in shallower areas if the child is evidently struggling or getting tired.
  • Guests must be introduced to the lifeguards upon arrival. Members are reminded that they are to be present with their guest(s) at all times and that their guests are their responsibility.

Unscheduled Pool Closure

  • If the air temperature drops below 16°C, the pool will close/not open.
  • If the black disc is not visible, the pool will close/not open.
  • If thunder is heard, patrons must wait 20 minutes from the last sound of thunder before entering the water.

Other Notes

  • Pets, roller blades, bicycles, scooters, and skateboards are to be left outside of the pool enclosure.
  • Food and drink are to be consumed on the grass.
  • Entrance into the pool house is restricted to pool staff. Please do not enter without permission from one of the staff members.
  • Pool members may not use the pool telephone for personal calls. It is meant for pool emergencies and pool-related business.
